AstroInsight ("we", "us", "our") is operated by an India-based sole trader and provides natal chart reading services to users worldwide. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our website at astroinsight.in (the "Service").

We take privacy seriously. If you are located in the United Kingdom or European Union, we comply with the UK GDPR and EU GDPR respectively. If you are located in California (USA), we comply with the CCPA.

1. What Information We Collect

When you request a reading, we collect the following information:

  • Name — your full name as entered in the form
  • Date of birth — day, month, and year
  • Time of birth — hour and minute
  • Place of birth — city, town, or village name
  • Reading tier and focus area — free or premium, and your chosen focus

For premium readings, payment is processed by Stripe. We do not collect, see, or store your card number, CVV, or any payment credentials. Stripe processes all payment data directly. Stripe's privacy policy is available at stripe.com/privacy.

We also automatically collect standard server logs including your IP address and browser type when you access the Service. These are used for security and performance monitoring only.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information you provide solely to:

  • Calculate your natal chart (planetary positions, ascendant, nakshatra, mahadasha)
  • Generate your personalised reading using AI
  • Display your report on screen and allow you to print it
  • Maintain a record of the reading in our database for technical purposes

We do not use your birth data for marketing, profiling, or any purpose other than generating your requested reading.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the UK or EU, our legal basis for processing your personal data is contract performance — processing is necessary to deliver the reading service you have requested and paid for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).

4. Data Retention

Your birth details and reading are stored in our secure database. We retain this data for a maximum of 12 months from the date of your reading, after which it is permanently deleted. We do not retain payment information — this is held by Stripe under their own retention policies.

Since we operate without user accounts, you cannot log in to view or delete your data yourself. To request deletion before the 12-month period, please contact us (see Section 8).

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes. We share data only with the following service providers who process it on our behalf:

  • OpenAI — your name, birth details, and chart data are sent to OpenAI's API to generate the written reading. OpenAI does not use API data to train its models. See openai.com/privacy.
  • Stripe — processes payment for premium readings. Receives only the payment amount and a product description, not your birth data.
  • Nominatim / OpenStreetMap — your place of birth is sent to Nominatim to obtain geographic coordinates. No name or personal identifiers are sent. See OSM Privacy Policy.

We may disclose data if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process.

6. International Transfers

Our servers are located in India. When you use the Service, your data is transferred to India and also to the United States (OpenAI) and Ireland (Stripe's EU operations). We rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and adequacy decisions where applicable for these transfers.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of the data we hold about you
  • Right to erasure — to request deletion of your data
  • Right to rectification — to correct inaccurate data
  • Right to object — to object to processing in certain circumstances
  • Right to data portability — to receive your data in a machine-readable format

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 8. We will respond within 30 days. UK/EU users may also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (UK) at ico.org.uk or their local supervisory authority.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
